Training for Excellence Clinics

Our Training For Excellence programs are designed and run by Austin Velocity Club coaches, each of whom are Gold Medal Squared (GMS) certified. The GMS program employs scientifically proven coaching methods, resulting in winning coaches and teams for over 35 years. Austin Velocity offers four tiers of training to address the appropriate age and skill level of your athlete:

Level I (Grades 4-12) – Early competitive Club level abilities
Level II (Grades 4-12) – Early competitive Club level abilities
Level III (Grades 4-12) – Middle School or Club level abilities
Level IV (Grades 4-12) – High School or Club level abilities
Level V (Grades 4-12) – High School and Club level abilities

Training for Excellence Levels II, III, IV, V require an in-depth evaluation to determine the level of play for the athlete’s abilities.

Please review Austin Velocity’s COVID-19 protocols. Athletes are required to wear a face mask at all times.

The Training for Excellence program is specifically designed to take proven instruction and drills adapted to the level of the athlete. We then give them the opportunity to play against others in practice with our “game-like” drills where the pace picks up and athletes apply their learning in a competitive environment.

Here’s what you can expect from the program:

  • Technical training. Learn what to do with your hands, your arms and your body in order to achieve success in serving, passing, setting and spiking the ball to your teammate
  • Mental training. Find out what it takes to overcome discouragement, forget your mistakes and dare mighty things to triumph when the pressure of the game reaches uncomfortable levels
  • Nutritional training. We’ve studied it and we’ve practiced it. What foods will help you train better? What foods help you recover faster? What beverages will keep you powered and alert for every action on the court?
  • Game Play. Our game-like drills have been adapted to each level of the program so that athletes can experience success while still being presented with a challenge at each session.

We have divided the program into 4 levels of advancement and ability. Evaluate the grade, talent and ability of your athlete to determine which level would be appropriate.

Evaluation Required for Levels II, III, IV, V

EVALUATION REQUIRED: All Training for Excellence programs require an evaluation session to determine the level of play for the athlete’s abilities.

EVALUATION PROCESS:

  • Fill out the Training for Excellence Level Evaluation form. This will help us determine which level will be appropriate for your athlete based on grade, experience, and ability
  • We will reach out to you with a link to sign up for a single session in the appropriate level
  • After this session, coaches will determine whether your athlete is in the appropriate level or will be more successful in a different level
  • Once evaluated, you will be able to sign your athlete up for multiple sessions or a package to train throughout the summer

TRAINING FOR EXCELLENCE LEVEL I
Grades 4-12

Description: Take your recreational or early club game to the next level! This program is for volleyball athletes ready for competitive play and will be run by certified trainers who coach at the club level. Each weekly session will be focused on a specific skill, breaking that skill down into its basic components and then stringing those components back together into the whole skill. This process helps our young players break bad habits while reinforcing the best techniques for precise, powerful, and consistent play.

Age and Experience:

  • Athletes in grades 4-12
  • At least 2 seasons of recreational volleyball experience
  • Ability to serve a volley-lite volleyball over the net from the regulation service line (30 ft).

[Summer 2022 Dates Coming Soon]

Training hours:

  • 14 sessions, 28 hours of training

Cost:

  • Individual sessions, $40/ea

No evaluation necessary for Level I.

TRAINING FOR EXCELLENCE LEVEL II
Grades 4-12

Description: This program meets twice a week and focuses primarily on creating consistency in serving and passing while improving the fundamentals of passing, setting, and spiking. Athletes that qualify for this level of instruction will be able to serve the regulation ball over the net, but not consistently (50-60% of the time).  While they may have played for several seasons in a recreational volleyball league, their level of aggressiveness and abilities will need more functional work.  There is a great benefit to learning the technical skills necessary to improve their talent level.  Many of these players will already be playing Boss Frog I. The coaches at this level will focus on enhancing the quality of serving, passing, setting, and spiking.

THIS PROGRAM IS LEAD BY COACHES FROM AUSTIN VELOCITY VOLLEYBALL CLUB.

Required:

  • Two seasons of recreational volleyball experience.
  • MUST be able to serve over the net with a regulation volleyball from behind the regular serving line.
  • EVALUATION REQUIRED

TRAINING FOR EXCELLENCE LEVEL III
Grades 4-12

Description: This program focuses primarily on improving the volleyball player. Athletes at this level have already played middle/high school volleyball, Boss Frog II or club volleyball. Their serving is consistent (above 70%) and has some accuracy.  Their knowledge of offensive systems is basic. Their aggressiveness and ability to read the game is proactive instead of reactive. The coaches at this level will be focusing on taking an athlete’s skill and improving it.  There will be more specificity in skill development as a setter, hitter or passer.  An athlete’s focus and determination largely determine the opportunity to grow at this level.

THIS PROGRAM IS LEAD BY COACHES FROM AUSTIN VELOCITY VOLLEYBALL CLUB.
